The "Valley of the Gods", seen here in the distance to the left center, is about 30 miles north of the Arizona state line. It can be accessed from either Route 163 north of Mexican Hat or Route 261. A well-maintained dirt road goes through the area that's dotted with giant sandstone rock formations, many with unusual names.
The valley road crosses several "washes" (i.e., wide drainage ditches) which will flood and cause the road to be impassable in wet weather. Otherwise, the road is easily travel in either direction by a conventional passenger car with normal ground clearance. Image taken from the top of the "Moki Dugway."
