These shots (front and side views) show the final moments of a Green Vine Snake swallowing whole a captured frog in Manuel Antonio National Park in the family picnic area. The snake dragged the frog into a tree and slowly swallowed it whole. In this collage, one of the frog's legs is still dangling out of the snake's mouth.
This all happened in front of an emotional audience of local families some who were very visibly disturbed a this. Word quickly spread throughout most of the park about this incident, and out of nowhere a dozen photographers showed up for this photo op. It was pandemonium.
The snake's eyes are clearly visible (where there's dirt on its head). Note the bulge as it body stretches to accomodate the now-consumed frog. September 28, 2007. D200 + Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR + TC 1.7E-II. 340mm - 510mm in 35mm terms.
